Rill and the kinds of tools you use today.

Most people already keep things in a task manager, a notes app, a read-later app, a meeting note-taker or an AI assistant. This page says plainly what Rill does that is different, and where one of those tools is the better choice.

Rill against the typical tool in each category

Each column describes the typical product in its category, from a reading of the public pages of several leading products last done on . It is not a claim about any one product: individual products vary, and many have added features since a category was named. Check a product’s own pages before you rely on a cell.

Being fair

When another tool is the better choice

  • A workspace your whole team builds in

If the main need is shared pages, databases and permissions for a team, a team workspace is built for that. Rill is organised around one person’s own memory and day.

  • Notes that stay on your own device

If you want your notes as plain files that never leave your computer, a local-first notes app is built for that. Rill keeps your notes on its servers; Vault notes are sealed on your device first.

  • One serious task list

If a single list with shared projects, boards and deadlines is all you need, a dedicated task manager is simpler than Rill.

  • Only meeting notes

If recording and summarising meetings is all you want, a dedicated AI note-taker is more focused than Rill, which does it as one part of a larger product.

  • Reading and highlighting above all

If most of what you keep is articles and books you highlight, a dedicated read-later app goes deeper into reading than Rill’s Reading section.

  • A general assistant for questions and drafts

If you only want to ask questions and draft text, and do not need a record of your own to answer from, a general AI assistant is enough.

  • Certifications your company requires

If your company needs SOC 2 or ISO 27001 from every vendor, check that first. Rill’s Security and Privacy pages do not list those certifications.
