Rill and Evernote

What Evernote is

Evernote calls itself “your second brain”: notes, tasks and a calendar in one place, with a web clipper and AI features. Its plan page lists an AI Assistant, Semantic Search, AI Transcribe, AI Edit, and a way to use your notes from Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools through MCP.

Who it is for

Evernote has plans for individuals (Free, Starter, Advanced), for teams (Flexible) and for larger organizations (Enterprise).

Evernote pricing as of October 28, 2026

  • Free: $0. Up to 50 notes, 1 notebook and 1 device.
  • Starter: $99.00 a year billed annually, or $14.99 billed monthly. Up to 1,000 notes, 20 notebooks, 3 devices and AI features.
  • Advanced: $249.99 a year billed annually, or $24.99 billed monthly. Unlimited notes, notebooks, attachments and devices, and AI features.

For comparison, Rill has two plans on the web: Rill Essentials, $2.99 a month, and Rill, $15 a month. What each includes.

Being fair

Where Evernote is stronger

  • A long-standing notebook app with tags, spaces, a web clipper, tasks and a calendar, on iOS, Android, Web, Windows and Mac.
  • In-note encryption on Mac and Windows, and plans for teams and larger organizations.
  • Evernote’s own pages list AI search (Semantic Search) and meeting transcription (AI Transcribe) too.

Where Rill differs

  • Bringing your notes over. Rill can import an Evernote export (.enex) and keeps the attachments.
  • Sources. Rill’s answers number their sources, and each source opens at the exact passage it came from.
  • Documents and channels. A photo of a receipt is read for its merchant, date and total, and you can forward an email to Rill or, on the Rill plan, text it by SMS or WhatsApp.
  • Choosing what AI reads. Rill has privacy levels note by note, Keep from AI, and a Vault whose notes are encrypted on your device before they leave it.
  • Taking your notes out. Evernote’s pages list ENEX, HTML and PDF export. Rill downloads JSON, Markdown and links to your files, on every plan.

Choose Evernote if: You want a long-standing notebook app with tasks and a calendar, on iOS, Android, Web, Windows and Mac.

Rill’s features are the ones on the features page; a line marked Rill plan is part of the Rill plan, not Rill Essentials.
