What Readwise Reader is
Reader is Readwise’s read-it-later app. Readwise’s pricing page describes it as a home for everything you want to read: articles, PDFs, EPUBs, emails, YouTube videos, RSS and X threads, with highlighting, full text search, text-to-speech and Ghostreader AI to summarize, explain and translate. Readwise’s Highlights product imports highlights from Kindle, Apple, Kobo and more than 40 other sources.

Being fair
Where Readwise Reader is stronger
- Reading is the whole product: keyboard-based reading, web highlighting, PDFs and EPUBs, RSS and newsletters, YouTube and X threads.
- Highlights from Kindle, Apple, Kobo and more than 40 other sources, with Daily Review by email and in the app, and OCR to capture physical books.
- A CLI, an MCP server, an API and a ChatGPT connector, so your library can be reached from AI tools.
Where Rill differs
- Reading is one part of Rill. You can save links, follow RSS and Atom feeds, highlight in six colours, have an item read aloud, and on the Rill plan ask questions answered from an item’s own text, each answer linked to the paragraph it came from.
- Beside the rest of what you keep. What you read sits in the same Library as your notes and documents.
- Working together. Rill can connect to a Readwise account and bring in Kindle highlights.
Choose Readwise Reader if: Reading and highlighting is the main thing you do, and you want an app built only around it.
Rill’s features are the ones on the features page; a line marked Rill plan is part of the Rill plan, not Rill Essentials.
